Michael Coteau endorses Josh Matlow for Mayor of Toronto
MP for Don Valley East says Matlow is the only candidate who meets the moment
June 3, 2023 – Mayoral candidate Josh Matlow today announced that MP Michael Coteau is proud to endorse Josh Matlow for Mayor of Toronto. On the heels of Matlow’s YouthStart plan announcement, Coteau today underlined Matlow’s deep commitment to community, to investing in young people and doing what it takes to get Toronto back on track.
“Josh Matlow is the leader Toronto needs right now,” said Coteau. “Our next mayor must halt the decline of our city and bring energy and optimism to address our urgent need for a safer, more affordable city that works. His ideas are solid, his approach is community-based and our values are completely aligned. That’s why I believe Matlow is the only candidate who meets this moment. It is my honour to endorse him for this vital leadership role.”
Michael Coteau is the MP for Don Valley East, and a former provincial MPP and Minister. Coteau held various Cabinet positions at Queen’s Park, serving as Minister of Children and Youth Services, Minister of Community and Social Services, Minister Responsible for Anti-Racism, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Minister Responsible for the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games, and as the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
As school trustees, Coteau and Matlow together advocated for adequate education funding, student nutrition programs, community use of space and providing opportunities for youth.
“Michael and I share common values, he is a force for good in our city, and we share a belief that a better Toronto is possible. Toronto needs to get back on track to being safer, more affordable and livable,” said Matlow. “We both understand that it’s important to work together, and that as representatives at City Hall, at Queen’s Park and in Ottawa, we are the vehicles and our communities are the drivers.”
